Dr. Garg was awarded a "challenge coin" by his veteran patient three months after double jaw advancement surgery. This patient initially presented with sleep apnea and was seeking maxillomandibular advancement surgery. Following surgery, this brave patient's sleep apnea was cured and his occlusion was improved.

This innovative procedure allows removal of a jaw tumor and immediate reconstruction of the bone with a microvascular free flap as well as immediate restoration of teeth.

Dr. Ravi Garg and Dr. Scott Recksiedler of San Diego Prosthodontics perform the first free fibula 'Jaw in a Day' surgery at Scripps in San Diego. Dr. Garg resected a benign locally aggressive tumor from the maxilla and reconstructed the jaw immediately using a microvascular fibula free flap. He placed dental implants in the fibular bone and worked with Dr. Recksiedler to deliver an immediate dental prosthesis so that the patient would have her jaw and dentition restored in a single day. The patient has had an excellent result and is living her life fully, working and staying active with her husband in her free time.
